Providence Art Club Wine Label Series
Project Type
Branding and Packaging Design
Date
2025
This wine label series draws inspiration from the Providence Art Club, founded in 1880 as a space for artists and patrons to gather, create, and exhibit work within a collaborative community. From its inception, the club was notably progressive, established by both men and women and offering equal membership at a time when this was largely unheard of.
The collection reflects this legacy of inclusivity and artistic independence. Each label is illustrated by hand and influenced by late 19th-century decorative styles, referencing the era in which the club was formed. Ornamental frames, intricate linework, and vintage-inspired typography echo historical design traditions while reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens.
The subject matter draws from both artistic culture and domestic symbolism, incorporating elements such as florals, fashion, and architecture tied to Providence. These visual choices subtly reference the evolving role of women in art, acknowledging the club’s early support of female artists who challenged traditional expectations and established themselves as professionals in a male-dominated field.
The series translates fine art influence into a functional design system, balancing storytelling with clarity and structure. Through this work, the labels become more than packaging; they function as small, collectible pieces that celebrate history, craftsmanship, and progress.
